Premier African Minerals Resumes Zulu Lithium-Tantalum Project in Zimbabwe

Published: Jul 18, 2025 17:11
On July 8th, Premier African Minerals, a mining company, restarted operations at its Zulu lithium-tantalum project in Zimbabwe after improving the recovery rate and grade of spodumene concentrates. The plant resumed operations on July 6th, initially operating with limited feed. The company expects to commence full ore feed on July 8th, followed by commissioning and optimization of the main spodumene flotation plant, aiming to enhance lithium recovery rates and product quality. Chief Executive Officer George Roach attributed the restart of operations to strong support from downstream customers. Roach confirmed that preliminary results from the Zulu project, located near Ricksenburg, Zimbabwe, would be announced after validation. The Zulu project's mineral resources are estimated at 526,000 mt of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) and 1,025 mt of tantalum pentoxide. According to the revised agreement signed in 2023, Premier aims to supply lithium concentrates to Canmax, including a minimum of 4,000 mt per month starting from April 2025.
