[SMM Rare Earth Morning Meeting Summary: Rare Earth Speculation Sentiment Resurfaces, Prices Rise Slightly] Yesterday, the price of Pr-Nd oxide rose rapidly. Affected by speculative factors in the news, suppliers significantly increased their quotes for Pr-Nd oxide, and the supply of low-priced goods in the market tightened rapidly. It is understood that although the actual transaction prices of Pr-Nd oxide have risen, there has been no significant increase in actual trading volume.

SMM News on June 6:

Rare Earth Ores

Prices: The price of rare earth carbonate is approximately 35,600 yuan/mt, the price of monazite is around 42,200 yuan/mt, and the price of medium-yttrium, europium-rich ore (standard grade) is about 190,000 yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: Recently, due to news factors from Southeast Asia, imports of ion-adsorption ore may decrease, and suppliers are even more reluctant to sell.

Rare Earth Oxides

Prices: The quotation range for Pr-Nd oxide is approximately 443,000-446,000 yuan/mt, the mainstream quotation range for dysprosium oxide is 1.62-1.64 million yuan/mt, and the quotation for terbium oxide has been adjusted to around 7.15-7.2 million yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: Yesterday, the price of Pr-Nd oxide rose rapidly. Influenced by speculative news, suppliers significantly increased their quotations for Pr-Nd oxide, and the availability of low-priced goods in the market tightened rapidly. It is understood that although the actual transaction price of Pr-Nd oxide has increased, the actual trading volume has not significantly risen.

Rare Earth Metals

Prices: The mainstream quotation range for Pr-Nd alloy is 540,000-542,000 yuan/mt, the quotation for dysprosium-iron alloy is approximately 1.58-1.59 million yuan/mt, and the quotation for terbium metal is around 8.8-8.9 million yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: Yesterday, metal prices rose in line with the market, but market transactions were sluggish. According to magnetic material enterprises, the current situation of downstream orders has not improved, and downstream companies are unwilling to accept high-priced metal raw materials. Under these circumstances, some industry participants believe that metal prices may struggle to continue rising.

NdFeB Blanks

Prices: NdFeB blank N38 (Ce) is quoted at 142-152 yuan/kg; NdFeB blank 40M is quoted at 188-198 yuan/kg; NdFeB blank 40H is quoted at 192-202 yuan/kg; NdFeB blank 45SH (Ce) is quoted at 242-262 yuan/kg.

Supply and Demand: Yesterday, trading activity in the magnetic material market was low. This was mainly due to export restrictions and fierce domestic market competition, which led to severe price-cutting in the magnetic material market and an unwillingness to accept high-priced metals, resulting in a stalemate in back-and-forth negotiations between upstream and downstream.

NdFeB Scrap

Prices: The price of Pr-Nd recycled from NdFeB scrap is quoted at 472-477 yuan/kg; the price of dysprosium recycled from NdFeB scrap is quoted at 1,610-1,621 yuan/kg; the price of terbium recycled from NdFeB scrap is quoted at 5,439-5,495 yuan/kg.

Supply and Demand: Yesterday, scrap prices remained stable at a high level. Influenced by the high prices, the circulation volume of scrap in the market increased, and overall trading activity in the market improved somewhat.

India to build a six-month strategic stockpile of lithium, cobalt and rare earths as demand rises
Amid sustained demand growth, India plans to build a strategic reserve of critical minerals including lithium, cobalt, nickel, copper and rare earths. The stockpile will be sized to cover six months of domestic consumption, aiming to guard against risks of global supply disruptions and sharp raw material price volatility. Led by India’s Ministry of Mines and Ministry of Heavy Industries, the reserve covers key raw materials essential for new energy vehicles, energy storage and the electronics sector, fields where India currently relies heavily on imports. At present, the United States, China, South Korea and other countries have already established strategic reserve systems for critical minerals.
