Yueda Kia boasts 49.2% YoY leap in 2024 full-year automobile sales

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Yueda Kia, the joint venture between Kia Corporation and China's Yueda Automobile Group, recently announced its sales performance for December 2024. The company sold 24,058 vehicles in the month, representing a year-on-year (YoY) jump of 28.1%. Total sales for 2024 reached 248,259 units, marking a 49.2% YoY growth.

On the technology front, Kia invested an additional 188 million yuan in 2024 to upgrade the equipment at its Chinese smart factory. Additionally, the Hyundai Motor Advanced Technology R&D Center in China plans to launch a UX Studio in Shanghai, which is dedicated to developing products to mobility needs of Chinese consumers.

Since announcing its China new energy vehicle strategy last year, Yueda Kia has embarked on a dual product strategy encompassing both oil-fueled vehicles and battery electric vehicles. The company launched models like the EV5 720 Long-range Edition, the 2025 EV5, and the EV5 GT-Line. Besides, Yueda Kia also upgraded its oil-fueled vehicles including the K3 Special Edition, the Sonet, and the 2025 Kia K5.

In complete vehicle exports, Yueda Kia has established a vehicle lineup including the EV5, the Sportage, the Seltos, the K5, the Sonet, and the Pegas. The company aims to export 180,000 vehicles in 2025. The company's export sales of complete vehicles have exceeded 364,000 units so far, which generated over $3.6 billion in export revenue. On the engine side, Yueda Kia has exported over 300,000 units globally, reaching countries such as South Korea, Russia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, India, and Vietnam.

Currently, Yueda Kia has established cooperation with major dealer groups like Sime Darby Berhad, Kam Lung Motor Group, and Shanghai Yueda Zhixing Automobile Service Co., Ltd., with 57 dedicated dealerships in key cities in construction or operation. Additionally, the automaker launched its official app, the Kia App, providing users with one-stop services covering car browsing, purchasing, usage, maintenance, and social interaction throughout the entire vehicle lifecycle.

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) released data on the 10th showing that in May 2026, China’s NEV market stabilized and rebounded, with production and sales reaching 1.554 million and 1.496 million units, up 22.4% and 14.4% YoY respectively. The share of NEV sales in total new vehicle sales further rose to 56.9%. In May, China’s auto production and sales reached 2.616 million and 2.629 million units, up MoM and slightly down YoY, though the decline narrowed further. Overall, in the first five months, auto production and sales totaled 12.235 million and 12.207 million units, with NEV production and sales totaling 5.841 million and 5.802 million units, up 2.5% and 3.5% YoY respectively.

[Japan's May New Car Sales Edge Up Nearly 3% YoY] Data on vehicle registrations recently released by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association showed that in May this year, domestic new car sales in Japan reached 332,997 units, edging up 2.75% YoY. Sales in the same period last year were 324,069 units, up 10% YoY. By category, passenger car sales were 276,910 units, up 2.75% YoY, and truck sales reached 55,168 units, up 2.2% YoY.
