Improving the Old Battery Recycling System to Support Green and Sustainable Development in Henan

On January 30th, Gao Weiguo, a member of the Henan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, proposed the establishment of a collaborative mechanism composed of the government, electric vehicle manufacturers, recycling companies, and other relevant stakeholders to jointly establish a comprehensive network for the recycling of old batteries. It is necessary to ensure that old battery recycling is accessible to every vehicle owner, by establishing collection points in both urban and rural areas and providing dedicated recycling bins to facilitate the return of old batteries. Encouragement will be given to research institutions and companies to increase investment in the research and development of old battery recycling, in order to improve recycling efficiency and rates. This will facilitate the application of research findings and support companies in the introduction of technologies to enhance recycling effectiveness. Moreover, efforts will be made to conduct research on the reuse of old batteries, encouraging research institutions and companies to explore new application areas such as energy storage systems and energy storage facilities. The establishment of a recycling and remanufacturing industry chain for old batteries will enable the recycling of old battery materials to reduce dependence on finite resources.
