China’s exports of unwrought aluminium and aluminium semis declined in October, but may pick up in November and December

According to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs: China’s exports of unwrought aluminium and aluminium semis in October 2023 were 440,300 mt, a year-on-year decrease of 8.1% and a month-on-month decrease of 6.59%; exports from January to October 2023 reached 4.6966 million mt, a year-on-year decrease of 17.2%. The total export value from January to October reached 1117.8 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 24.8%.

Previously, the United States launched anti-dumping investigations on aluminium extrusions from 10 countries, including China, which made domestic manufacturers worried. This, coupled with weak overseas market demand and large uncertainties in overseas macroeconomics, exports of unwrought aluminium and aluminium semis showed a year-on-year downward trend. But considering expectations for overseas pre-holiday and year-end stocking, it is expected that aluminium semis export volume from November to December may show a slight month-on-month growth.
