China Aluminium Scrap Imports Fell In July, But May Rebound in August

SHANGHAI, Sep 14 (SMM) – Regarding imports of aluminium scrap, according to GACC, in July 2023, China imported 148,400 mt of aluminium scrap, down 0.95% YoY and 8.76% MoM. The cumulative import volume of aluminium scrap from January to July 2023 reached 969,800 mt, up 24.29% YoY. Although the domestic aluminium scrap supply shortage still existed, import losses and poor orders at downstream enterprises led to a decline in the import of aluminium scrap. As aluminium prices continued to rise in August, and with relatively stable downstream demand, it is expected that aluminium scrap imports may rebound in August.
