On August 30th, China Petroleum announced that the largest photovoltaic power direct green hydrogen project in China - the Xinjiang Kuche Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project - has been fully completed and put into operation. With the completion and full capacity grid-connection of the supporting photovoltaic power station, the project can produce green hydrogen at full load, with 20,000 tons of green hydrogen produced annually to be supplied to PetroChina Tahe Refining and Chemical Company for replacing natural gas hydrogenation in oil refining, thus achieving the coupling of modern oil products processing and low-carbon development. The full completion and commissioning of the project marks a breakthrough in the large-scale industrial application of green hydrogen in China.
The project is the first large-scale project in China to directly produce green hydrogen from photovoltaic power, utilizing the abundant solar energy resources in Xinjiang to directly produce green hydrogen, with electrolysis hydrogen production capacity of 20,000 tons/year, storage capacity of 210,000 standard cubic meters, and hydrogen transmission capacity of 28,000 standard cubic meters per hour.
