SHANGHAI, May 15 (SMM) - Last Friday, the average price of Ni 1.5% ore added $1.5/wmt from the previous Friday to $52.5/wmt on a CIF basis. Nickel ore production in the Philippines grew somewhat, but the mines were less willing to ship their spots when the ore prices were low. On the other hand, the poor weather conditions in the country also hindered the ore shipments. In the meantime, the NPI prices rose to 1,125 yuan/mtu during the week, slightly pushing up the nickel ore prices. And the nickel ore demand from the NPI sector gradually recovered, which may drive up the ore prices further. The nickel ore traders saw fewer transactions restricted by the mines' firm quotes and the NPI plants' push for lower purchase prices, so they had to cut their ore quotes. Short-term Ni 1.5% ore prices may be stable with occasional ups.
