Bank of Canada Launching a Public Consultation on the Future Issuance of Digital Currencies

The Bank of Canada is launching an online public consultation on issues related to the future issuance of digital currencies. It said that along with the digitisation worldwide, the Bank of Canada, like central banks in many other countries, is also looking into the digitisation of the national currency. The Bank of Canada also said that the country does not currently need a digital currency. The decision to issue a digital currency will be up to Parliament and the federal government.
