Lithium Slag Treatment Bottlenecks to Hamper Development of Lithium Carbonate Industry in Yichun, and Local Environmental Protection Costs Will Increase  

Representative from Jiangxi province who attended this year’s “Two Sessions” predicted that the lithium salt production capacity in Yichun city, Jiangxi province will reach 400,000 mt in 2023, which will generate more than 15 million mt of lithium slag.

However, the current lithium slag treatment capacity in the city is merely 900,000 mt/year. The severe lithium slag treatment bottleneck will hamper the development of local lithium carbonate industry. Meanwhile, tightening environmental protection regulations will drive up the production costs of local lithium carbonate smelters.
