EU plans to give member states the power to ban imports of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) without imposing new unified sanctions, media reported citing sources.
The EU has so far imposed 10 rounds of sanctions against Russia, including a ban on imports of Russian coal and oil. However, the EU has not directly sanctioned Russian LNG, mainly because Europe is more dependent on Russian gas than oil and coal.
