Import Volume of Bauxite Remained at around 10 milion mt in December 2022

According to General Administration of Customs, China imported 10.15 million mt of bauxite in December 2022, down 13.9% month-on-month but up 16.3% year-on-year. In details, the imports stood at 6.2 million mt from Guinea, down 14.5% MoM, but up 76.1% YoY. Imports were 2.73 million mt from Australia, down 3.8% MoM and 6.1% YoY, and 1 million mt from Indonesia, down 26.1% MoM and 55.5% YoY.

Bauxite imports from January to December 2022 totalled 125.67 million mt to reach a record high, a year-on-year increase of 16.9%. Imports from Guinea, Australia, and Indonesia were 70.35 million mt, 34.09 million mt and 18.98 million mt, respectively, an increase of 28.5%, 0.05%, and 6.7% over the previous year. China's bauxite imports have exceeded 100 million mt for four consecutive years, playing a key role in the global bauxite trade market.
