On the news side, yesterday, the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences reported that the research team of the Institute's Qinghai-Tibet Plateau discovered super-large lithium deposits in the Qiongjiagang area of the Himalayas. In terms of scale, the lithium deposit is expected to become the third largest lithium deposit in China after Bailongshan in southern Xinjiang and methyl card in western Sichuan, and it is also the first pegmatite lithium deposit with industrial value in the Himalayas.
Qin Kezhang, head of the scientific research team and director of the key Laboratory of Mineral Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said it was conservatively estimated that the lithium oxide resources in the body could reach 1.0125 million tons, with an average lithium oxide content of 1.30%. But in fact, the real reserves of the mineral may far exceed the result.
According to the latest data released by the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance, in January 2022, China's power battery production totaled 29.7 GWH, an increase of 146.2 percent over the same period last year; in terms of vehicle loading, China's total power battery loading totaled 16.2 GWH, an increase of 86.9 percent over the same period last year. As a result, it can be seen that today's power battery industry is hot.
SMM believes that given that there is still a supply gap of about 15 per cent in the lithium carbonate market and the demand for replenishment by enterprises in February-March, the future price of lithium carbonate may continue to rise due to shortages.
