Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: in the first four months, China's lithium-ion battery output increased by 62.6% over the same period last year.

On June 11, the Consumer goods Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the economic performance of the battery industry from January to April 2021. Among the main products of the national battery manufacturing industry from January to April 2021, the output of lithium-ion batteries was 6.71 billion, an increase of 62.6 percent over the same period last year; the output of lead-acid batteries was 83.324 million kilovolt amperes, an increase of 43.9 percent over the same period last year; and the output of primary batteries and primary battery packs (non-buckle type) was 13.61 billion, an increase of 23.9 percent over the same period last year.

In April, the national output of lithium-ion batteries was 1.87 billion, up 33.5% from the same period last year; when the output of lead-acid batteries was 20.214 million KVA, it was up 7.0% from the same period last year; and the output of primary batteries and primary battery packs (non-buckle type) was 3.56 billion, up 4.0% from the same period last year.

In terms of benefits, from January to April 2021, the operating income of large-scale battery manufacturing enterprises nationwide was 308.48 billion yuan, an increase of 64.0 percent over the same period last year, and the total profit was 17.46 billion yuan, an increase of 248.8 percent over the same period last year.

According to data released on the website of the General Administration of Customs on May 18, China's battery imports reached 134.69 million in April, an increase of 6.4 percent over the same period last year, while imports reached 2.41958 billion yuan, down 17.5 percent from the same period last year. From January to April, China imported 492 million batteries, an increase of 22.8 percent over the same period last year, and imports reached 8.82128 billion yuan, an increase of 3.8 percent over the same period last year.

In April, China imported 125.63 million lithium-ion batteries, an increase of 2.9 percent over the same period last year, while imports reached 2.1807 billion yuan, down 19.6 percent from the same period last year. From January to April, China imported 466.74 million lithium-ion batteries, an increase of 21.7 percent over the same period last year, and imports reached 7.97005 billion yuan, an increase of 3.3 percent over the same period last year.
