SMM6 March 18: Posco said recently that the company has successfully developed NCMA cathode materials. At the same time, the product samples provided by the company have also passed the audit, and the newly developed NCMA cathode materials will soon begin large-scale production in Gumi and Gwangyang plants.
The NCMA cathode material is the addition of aluminum to the previous NCM cathode material to maintain the output and stability of the cathode material, resulting in a decrease in the proportion of cobalt and manganese and an increase in the proportion of nickel to more than 80%.
As the price of cobalt is high and fluctuating, reducing the amount of cobalt will reduce the production cost of cathode materials and ensure that the price of cathode materials is more stable.
The NCMA cathode material produced by Posco uses artificial intelligence technology to uniformly align aluminum in the material, while surface protection and coating have also been applied to improve stability and power output.
NCMA materials will be used in third-generation electric vehicles, which can travel 500km to 600km on a single charge.
