China issued 8th batch of metals scrap import quotas for 2020

SHANGHAI, Jun 17 (SMM) – China's environmental authorities on Tuesday issued the eighth batch of copper and aluminium scrap import quotas for 2020.

The China Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Bureau, a unit of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, granted import allowances for 1,570 mt of high-grade copper scrap to four companies—two in Zhejiang province’s Taizhou and the other two in Guangdong province’s Qingyuan—in the latest release, sharply down from 10,423 mt in the last batch.

Quotas for aluminium scrap in the latest batch stood at 5,840 mt, all allocated to a company—Lanxi Boyuan Metal, one of the largest aluminium manufacturers in East China. That marked a significant increase from 1,480 mt in the seventh batch.

There were no import allowances for steel scrap issued in the latest batch. The scrap management bureau issued 310 mt of import quotas in the last batch, bringing the cumulative amount for this year to 11,540 mt.
