Vale Puts On-hold Expansion of Voisey’s Bay Nickel Mine

SHANGHAI, Aug. 22 (SMM) – Vale is reviewing operations at Voisey’s Bay nickel mine, and its expansion plan by moving operations underground are on hold. 

In 2015, Vale said it would move operations underground at Voisey’s Bay nickel mine in northern Labrador when the open-pit was exhausted. 

The company said this would extend the life of the mine by 15 years and create 450 jobs.
