Chinese Scrap Metal Market Ended on a Weak Note; Copper Scrap Declined on 3rd August, 2017

The Chinese scrap metal prices mostly remained unchanged on ScrapMonster Price Index  as on August 3rd, Thursday.

BEIJING (Scrap Monster): The Chinese scrap metal prices mostly remained unchanged on ScrapMonster Price Index  as on August 3rd, Thursday. Steel and Stainless Steel scrap prices too held steady. Meantime, copper and aluminum scrap prices witnessed marginal decline over the previous day. Brass scrap and Bronze scrap prices remained flat when matched with the previous day.

Copper Scrap Prices

#1 Copper Bare Bright prices were down by CNY 100 per MT over the previous day. The price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing and #2 Copper Wire and Tubing too declined marginally by CNY 100 per MT each.

#1 Insulated Copper Wire 85% Recovery prices remained unchanged at CNY 28,050 per MT upon comparison with the previous day. The price of #2 Insulated Copper Wire 50% Recovery remained unchanged over the previous day.

Copper Transformer and Cu Yokes prices remained flat over the previous day.

Cu/Al Radiator scrap prices too held steady over the day. Harness Wire 35% Recovery prices held steady.

Heater Cores prices held steady at CNY 26,800 per MT on Thursday, August 3rd.

Meantime, Scrap Electric Motors and Sealed Units prices remained unchanged when compared with the previous day.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

6063 Extrusions witnessed a price decline of CNY 100 per MT over the previous day.

Aluminum Ingots too dropped by CNY 100 per MT.

The prices of Aluminum Radiators and Aluminum Transformer scrap remained flat on Index.

E.C Aluminum Wire prices dropped by CNY 100 per MT to touch CNY 14,400 per MT.

Old Cast prices too witnessed a down move of CNY 100 per MT.

The prices of Old Sheets dropped by CNY 100 per MT.

UBC and Zorba 90% INF prices held steady on Index.

Steel Scrap Prices

#1 HMS prices held steady at CNY 1,630 per MT on 3rd August, 2017.

Cast Iron Scrap reported no change in prices.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices

201 SS and 304 SS Solid prices remained flat on Index.

304 SS Turning too registered no change in daily prices.

309 SS and 310 SS prices were unchanged on August 3rd, 2017.

Meantime, 316 SS Solid and Shred SS prices held steady at CNY 11,300 per MT and CNY 9,450 per MT respectively.

Brass/Bronze Scrap Prices

The Brass/Bronze Scrap prices in China saw no variation from the previous day.

Brass Radiator scrap prices held steady at CNY 30,200 per MT on August 3rd, 2017.

Red Brass and Yellow Brass prices too remained flat on Index.

Explosion at Kazzinc Metallurgical Site in Kazakhstan Leaves Two Dead and Five Injured
On May 5th, according to Reuters, an explosion occurred at Kazzinc’s site. Kazzinc said that it occurred during cleaning work on a smoke extraction system, followed by a fire and partial structural collapse. So far, emergency ministry said the fire had been extinguished. Kazzinc, owned by Glencore, has an annual production of roughly 250-300 kt of zinc, 100-150 kt of lead and around 87.5 kt of copper cathode. Kazzinc hasn't disclosed the specific impact. Based on currently available information, the incident mainly involved smoke extraction/dust-collection equipment, may cause temporary disruption to related operations. There is no evidence so far that the main zinc electrowinning line was damaged. Further updates needed on the scope of any cuts or suspensions and the repair timeline.
