Key Points: Fake News: On July 7, 2026, multiple media outlets reported that CATL officially announced the phase-one launch of the world's first mass production line for all-solid-state batteries at its Yibin, Sichuan facility, with a planned capacity of 15 GWh. Sulfide all-solid-state technology route + energy density of 500 Wh/kg + 10-minute fast charging + 800 km.

Many clients in the industry sought verification from SMM. After an SMM survey, we make the following assessments:
1. This news is most likely fabricated by self-media, as there is currently no official CATL announcement, mainstream financial media report, or exchange disclosure to support it.
2. It also contradicts recent public statements by CATL executives: At the 2026 Davos Forum in June, Zeng Yuqun clearly stated that the technology readiness level (TRL) of all-solid-state batteries is only TRL-4 (on a scale of 9), and that large-scale vehicle integration is unlikely before 2030; the plan is to commence small-batch trial production in 2027.
True Background Restoration
CATL indeed has R&D progress on all-solid-state batteries: lab samples have reached an energy density of 500 Wh/kg, the sulfide route is being advanced, and the Yibin base does have plans for a pilot/prototype line (approximately 2 GWh scale), with commissioning expected to begin in H2 2026 and small-batch trial production targeted for 2027.
What is currently being mass-produced and installed in vehicles are semi-solid/condensed-state batteries: the so-called "solid-state battery" models already on the market in China (such as the NIO 150 kWh pack, IM L6, etc.) are all semi-solid/quasi-solid (containing a small amount of liquid electrolyte), not true all-solid-state batteries.
Rumor Source Speculation
It is highly likely that regular news about "equipment delivery/tender launch for the pilot line" was exaggerated into "15 GWh all-solid-state mass production line officially put into operation," and then widely circulated through secondary processing by self-media. Some users on a certain wealth website's stock forum have already explicitly pointed out this is "false information" and "a rumor."
SMM believes that in the long journey of solid-state batteries from technological breakthroughs to mass production realization, dawn will eventually come, but do not mistake the faint glow of a cigarette butt in the dark for the first light of dawn. We look forward to the brilliance of emerging from a cocoon as a butterfly, but we are even more wary of the "crying wolf" narrative that erodes the industry's credibility—false news only robs genuine breakthroughs of the resonance they deserve.
