【SMM Aluminum Flash News】Germany's Construction Aluminum Demand Falls 12% as 2027 Recovery Offers Growth Prospects
Germany's construction-related aluminum consumption is estimated to have declined by around 12% between 2022 and 2025, falling from approximately 499,500 mt to 439,500 mt, while total aluminum consumption decreased from 3.33 million mt to 2.93 million mt. High financing costs, elevated building material prices and weak residential investment have weighed on construction activity. Following a 3% contraction in 2025, Germany's construction sector is projected to grow by around 1% in 2026 and 2% in 2027. Meanwhile, Germany is strengthening closed-loop aluminum recycling in construction. The sector generated an estimated 130,000 mt of aluminum scrap in 2023, with approximately 75,000 mt collected through an industry recycling network. Recovering investment in transport infrastructure, power grids, data centers and residential construction could support future demand for aluminum and recycled materials, although actual growth will depend on project implementation and aluminum intensity. 【SMM Aluminum Flash News】Mexico Launches Second Anti-Dumping Sunset Review, While Existing Duties Remain
Mexico's Ministry of Economy has initiated a second anti-dumping sunset review on aluminum cookware originating in China, following a request from domestic producer Vasconia Brands. The review covers products classified under tariff code 7615.10.02 and will determine whether the existing anti-dumping measures should remain in place. The dumping review period covers July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, while the injury analysis period spans July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2026. Mexico confirmed that existing anti-dumping duties on the covered Chinese aluminum cookware will remain in force throughout the review, pending the final determination.

【SMM Aluminum Flash News】UK PRN Price Incentives May Drive Higher Aluminum Scrap Exports
UK aluminum packaging recycling organization Alupro has released an econometric study of the Packaging Recovery Note (PRN) market, covering 156 monthly observations from 2013 to 2025 across seven packaging materials and domestic and export recycling routes. The findings show that higher PRN prices are significantly associated with increased long-term recycling volumes for six of the seven materials studied. For aluminum, PRN price increases were significantly associated with higher recycling tonnages, while price decreases showed no comparable significant effect. Aluminum was also the only material where domestic reprocessing volumes declined while export volumes increased as PRN prices rose, suggesting that stronger price incentives may encourage more aluminum scrap to flow into overseas markets. The findings are expected to inform future UK packaging recycling policy and PRN system reforms.
