In late May, driven by news stimulus and expectations for future demand, tantalum prices once rallied sharply, with tantalum ore prices surging to 240–245 US dollars per ton-unit. However, the subsequent positive factors failed to materialize, market panic intensified, and tantalum prices entered a gradual downtrend followed by a prolonged period of bottom consolidation. As the traditional off-season in July and August draws to a close, undercurrents are stirring at the market bottom, and tantalum prices are poised to embark on a new operational cycle.

Recent signs of price hikes have emerged one after another, and there are three main supporting factors: First, downstream tantalum smelting enterprises have timely restocked, providing a floor support for the market, which is also the core reason why the previous decline of tantalum prices was generally limited. Second, there is an inherent annual supply gap, and with the recovery of traditional demand coupled with the surge in demand from the emerging AI sector, the demand for tantalum ores and tantalum smelted products remains strong. Third, speculative demand has amplified the price increase: as the off-season comes to an end, some miners have started to purchase and stockpile goods, low-priced supplies in the market have been quickly digested, and the floor of tantalum prices has gradually moved up.
However, the sustainability of this round of price rally remains uncertain. For one thing, the sharp surge in tantalum prices has created substitution pressure on traditional demand, and prolonged high prices will prompt Downstream Enterprises to actively seek alternatives, thus capping the upside room for prices; for another, there is still a certain amount of raw material inventory in the current market, coupled with the reluctance of smelters to chase high prices, downstream procurement is characterized by "long intervals and centralized purchasing", making it difficult for the demand side to generate continuous driving force.
