【SMM Flash News】 RWE Installs World’s First Low-Carbon Steel and Recyclable Blade Offshore Wind Turbine in Denmark

Published: Apr 12, 2026 22:29
German utility RWE AG has achieved a global milestone by installing the first offshore wind turbine featuring both low-carbon steel towers and recyclable rotor blades at the 1.1-GW Thor project in Denmark. Utilizing Siemens Gamesa’s GreenerTower technology, the turbine plates reduce carbon emissions by at least 63% compared to conventional steel. The project, a joint venture with Norges Bank Investment Management, aims to install 72 turbines (15 MW each) by the end of 2026, with half utilizing green steel and 40 equipped with recyclable blades. Currently supplying power to the Danish grid, the wind farm is slated for full operation by 2027, eventually powering over one million households.
