【SMM Analysis】Energy Storage & EV Market Analysis: Steady June Demand, Subdued Activity, Further Decline Expected in July

Published: Jul 20, 2025 18:27
From an overall data analysis perspective, rigid demand in the energy storage sector provided stable support at the end of June. Both domestic and overseas demand received some support due to mid-year factors and various policies. The automotive sales boom driven by early June car shows gradually subsided. The market penetration rate of new energy vehicles remained stable, and current consumption momentum in the end market is insufficient. It is expected that there will be some incremental growth in end demand, but it will be relatively limited. In terms of market transactions, by the end of June, market activity remained subdued. Some echelon battery manufacturers basically avoided building significant inventory, maintaining a strategy of purchasing only for essential needs. Moving into July, after the mid-year period, demand in both the power and energy storage markets has the potential to decline further.

[SMM PV News] RayGen Deploys 1 MW Solar and Thermal Storage System in Brazil
Melbourne-based RayGen has fully commissioned a 1 MW concentrated solar and long-duration thermal energy storage system in Petrolina, Brazil, in partnership with Axia Energia. The facility utilizes RayGen's 'PV Ultra' technology, which uses mirrors to concentrate sunlight onto modules while capturing heat in a water-based storage system. This design achieves a 70% round-trip efficiency. Axia is testing the technology for potential large-scale deployment to help power 'AI factories.' RayGen already operates a commercial facility in Australia and is currently advancing a 200 MW/1,200 MWh utility-scale project in South Australia.

[SMM PV News] Middle East 'LNG' Strikes Impact PPA and BESS Economics
Strikes on Middle East 'LNG' infrastructure are affecting long-term 'PPAs' and battery energy storage system ('BESS') economics, according to Swiss firm Pexapark. Lead analyst Nicolas Briet noted that supply risks from Qatar have tightened European fundamentals, visibly impacting 'PPA' valuations. A 10-year solar pay-as-produced 'PPA' in the UK saw a 19% fair value increase. Despite improved economics, 'PPA' transactions may remain slow due to buyer caution and rising equipment costs linked to higher energy prices. Conversely, 'BESS' is directly benefiting from increased intraday volatility and wider price spreads. Pexapark also reported 30 new 'PPA' deals in February 2026, the highest monthly volume since February 2024.
