[Primetals Completes Automation Upgrade for Novelis Zhenjiang Hot-Rolling Mill]

Novelis Aluminum Zhenjiang has issued a final acceptance certificate to Primetals Technologies for completing Phase 2 of an automation upgrade at its hot-rolling mill in Jiangsu, China. The project included both hardware and software enhancements aimed at improving production stability, equipment reliability, and reducing unplanned downtimes.

Phase 2 featured the country’s first software migration to the Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) platform, which offers improved computing performance and lower operating costs. The new system also includes server virtualization and an updated human-machine interface (HMI), allowing for faster IT responses and easier process adjustments. Phase 1, which had an eight-month completion window, was also finished four days ahead of schedule despite logistical challenges, with the mill returning to full capacity and meeting all quality standards.
