On Sunday, March 30, preliminary data released by the Indian Ministry of Mines showed that India's aluminum production increased slightly by 0.9% to 3.836 million mt during the April-February period of the 2024-25 fiscal year. According to government data, aluminum production in the same period last year was 3.8 million mt. Meanwhile, refined copper production in the 2024-25 fiscal year rose 7.1% to 497,000 mt. India is one of the world's top 10 refined copper producers, ranks fourth globally in iron ore production, and is the second-largest aluminum producer globally. Developed economies regard aluminum as a strategic resource and have taken measures to protect their domestic industries. Despite these trends, India has become the world's largest importer of aluminum scrap, a development that has hindered the growth of the domestic aluminum scrap industry. India's aluminum demand is expected to reach 10 million mt by 2030, prompting the Aluminum Association of India (AAI) to call for strong measures such as higher import tariffs and anti-dumping protections to promote the industry's long-term growth. According to government data, iron ore accounted for 70% of the total mineral production under MCDR, with production reaching 274 million mt in the 2023-24 fiscal year. India's iron ore production continued to increase in the 2024-25 fiscal year, rising 4.4% YoY to 263 million mt. Other key minerals also showed strong growth, with manganese ore production up 12.8% to 3.4 million mt and bauxite production up 3.6% to 22.7 million mt during the same period. Official data showed that lead concentrate production increased 3.5% to 352,000 mt. Combined with the growth in aluminum and copper, these trends indicate sustained strong economic activity in end-user industries such as energy, infrastructure, construction, automotive, and machinery. For more updates on the copper industry chain, you are welcome to attend the CCIE 2025 SMM (20th) Copper Industry Conference & Copper Industry Expo, hosted by SMM, which will be held in Nanchang, Jiangxi, from April 22 to 25, 2025. Over 3,000 industry elites, representatives from upstream and downstream enterprises of the copper industry chain, government officials, industry associations, third-party equipment, logistics and warehousing, and academic experts will gather together. The conference covers mining, smelting, copper processing, trade, disassembly recycling, and end-use applications, encompassing the entire copper industry chain. At the event, more than 100 exhibitors will showcase the latest copper processing and smelting equipment, high-quality raw material suppliers, and new-type copper-based materials, highlighting the innovation and vitality of the copper industry. The conference features a variety of exciting activities: the main forum focuses on global copper market trends, raw material supply, policy impacts, and market outlooks. Sub-forums delve into industry hot topics in areas such as electrical power transmission and distribution, secondary copper, copper-based new materials, hardware and plumbing, and ESS. During the conference, a two-day field trip will visit 12 representative enterprises in the copper industry, with a cumulative production of 1 million mt, to share cutting-edge technologies and valuable experiences, helping to upgrade the copper industry chain and promote high-quality industry development.
