SAIC Motor-backed Haitong Taicang Auto Terminal begins operation

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 12, 2024, the Haitong Taicang Automobile Terminal, a collaborative project by SAIC Motor, Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd. ("SIPG"), and Jiangsu Port Logistics Group Co., Ltd., has officially commenced operations.

As the largest automobile roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel terminal along the Yangtze River, the Haitong Taicang facility boasts an annual throughput capacity of 1.3 million vehicles. The terminal serves as a vital hub for global trade and a critical node in the global automotive supply chain, providing comprehensive ocean logistics services to automakers, including SAIC Motor. This facility will open a new gateway for Chinese automotive brands to expand into international markets.

SAIC Motor has already established a full-value chain for its international business, including innovation centers, production facilities, marketing hubs, supply chain networks, and financial services. Its products and services are now available in over 100 countries and regions. SAIC's MG brand has gained mainstream recognition in numerous countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Mexico.

From January to November 2024, SAIC Motor's overseas sales reached 937,000 vehicles. In Europe alone, MG sold over 220,000 vehicles during this period, overcoming challenges such as the European Union's anti-subsidy investigations and achieving year-over-year growth.

SAIC Anji Logistics, a subsidiary of SAIC Motor and a global leader in automobile logistics, plays a pivotal role in this ecosystem. With operations spanning nearly 600 cities in China and over 100 countries worldwide, the company boasts an annual transport capacity of 10 million vehicles. SAIC Anji Logistics has developed a "T-shaped" logistics network along China's coast and rivers and a "fan-shaped" railway terminal layout. It also manages 5,820 meters of RoRo vessel shoreline resources and has been recognized as a national model for multi-modal transportation integration.

The Haitong Terminal under SAIC Anji Logistics is one of the world's largest RoRo vessel terminals, with an estimated throughput of 3.5 million vehicles in 2024. Its Taicang automobile terminal covers 960,000 square meters, features 708 meters of shore line, and can simultaneously accommodate two 70,000-tonne RoRo ships and one 3,000-tonne vessel. It offers parking for 32,000 vehicles and operates five service centers for vehicle storage, inspection, maintenance, and charging.
