China's July Primary Aluminum Net Imports Surge 18.3% YoY, Boosted by Import Growth

【Net Import of Domestic Primary Aluminum in July Increased by 18.3% YoY】Primary Aluminum Imports: According to data from the General Administration of Customs, China's imports of primary aluminum in July 2024 amounted to approximately 129,900 tonnes, marking a monthly increase of 7.2% and a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 11.4%. From January to July, cumulative imports of primary aluminum totaled 1,349,000 tonnes, a significant YoY growth of 124%.

Primary Aluminum Exports: The same customs data revealed that in July 2024, China exported around 19,000 tonnes of primary aluminum, registering a monthly surge of 169.4% but a YoY decline of 16.7%. From January to July, cumulative exports of primary aluminum amounted to approximately 47,200 tonnes, a decrease of around 41% YoY.

Net Import of Primary Aluminum: In July 2024, China's net import of primary aluminum was approximately 111,000 tonnes, a slight monthly decrease of 2.8% but a substantial YoY increase of 18.3%. From January to July, the cumulative net import of primary aluminum reached approximately 1,302,000 tonnes, marking a YoY surge of 149%.
