BAIC Group, CATL, Xiaomi EV to co-build battery cell factory

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Three subsidiaries of BAIC Group will join forces to establish a platform company, collaborating with CATL and Xiaomi to build a battery cell factory.

Recently, BAIC BluePark New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. ("BAIC BluePark") announced its plan to jointly establish a platform company, named BAIC Hailanxin Energy Technology Co., Ltd., with BAIC Capital and Beijing Hainachuan Automotive Parts Co., Ltd. ("BHAP").

The new entity, with a registered capital of 390 million yuan, is set to act as the management and investment hub for a collaborative effort. In collaboration with CATL, Jingneng Technology Group ("CJNOO"), and Xiaomi EV, it will co-found Beijing Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. This partnership marks the beginning of an ambitious project to invest in and construct a battery cell intelligent manufacturing plant in Beijing.

The partnership between BAIC Group and CATL dates back to 2010. As their collaboration has deepened over time, both parties have engaged in more profound cooperation in supply chain coordination, technology development, standard setting, and after-sales services. CATL is also a primary battery supplier for ARCFOX, an electric vehicle brand under BAIC Group. The joint venture to build a battery cell factory aims to play a pivotal role in integrating core, high-quality supply chain resources and planning for the long-term, stable development of ARCFOX.

Reflecting broader strategic ambitions, this initiative aligns with Beijing's economic and social development agenda, as underscored in the "2024 Government Work Report Key Task List" published by the Beijing Municipal People's Government in February this year. The inclusion of the CATL battery cell factory project in this agenda underscores the critical role of state-owned enterprises like BAIC Group in driving innovation and high-quality development within the megacity's automotive and technological landscapes. Committed to advancing Beijing's role as a multifaceted hub and propelling the new energy vehicle industry forward, BAIC Group is set to make significant contributions to the capital's socio-economic development and the national push towards greener, more sustainable transportation solutions.
