Korean Cell makers are are strengthening their position in the global ternary battery market and are also actively developing LFP batteries and solid-state batteries. While under the presurre of OEM's cost reduction and CATL's price reduction annoucement, Korean cell makers' presure to reduce the cost gets greater.

At InterBattery 2024, South Korea's largest battery industry event, South Korean battery manufacturers showcased next generation battery solutions amid competitive pressure from Chinese peers and a slowdown in the electric vehicle market.

● LGES: demonstrated the soft package CTC solution;

● SDI: solid-state battery roadmap, and 46X series;

● SK-ON: Improvement of fast charging battery.

LG Energy Solution took center stage, with a booth area of 540 square meters. A highlight of the exhibition was a demonstration of pouch CTP technology through a model resembling a car chassis, with the aim of learning how prismatic cells improve energy density and reduce battery weight and cost by eliminating module stages.

LG CEO Kim Dong-myung said that it is actively discussing cooperation with multiple automakers to promote their cell-to-pack technology.

Soft-packed CTC battery cells can directly assemble batteries into battery packs without modules, thereby reducing battery weight and cost.

SDI demonstrated its flagship next generation battery technology, all solid state batteries, and set a roadmap targeting the industry's highest energy density of 900 Wh/L, with plans to achieve mass production of all solid state batteries in 2027.

SDI expects to mass-produce 20-year-life batteries by 2029, and also launched innovative fast charging technology that can shorten charging time from 8% to 80% in just 9 minutes.

SK On will launch advanced super fast (Super Fast high nickel battery) batteries with an energy density 9% higher than traditional SF batteries while maintaining fast charging capabilities. It is expected that at the same energy density, the battery's fast charging performance is about 18% higher than that of traditional SF batteries.

SK On will also showcase lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries with improved low-temperature performance to deal with the problem of battery performance degradation in low-temperature environments. This series is named Winter Pro LFP batteries, which have a 16% increase in charge and discharge capacity at low temperatures. Energy density increased by 19%.

Key Hightlights: Korean Cell makers are are strengthening their position in the global ternary battery market and are also actively developing LFP batteries and solid-state batteries.

While under the presurre of OEM's cost reduction and CATL's price reduction annoucement, Korean cell makers' presure to reduce the cost gets greater.

Mid-nickel and hight voltage is a trend, fast charging is a need.

[SMM Analysis] Restructuring of Lithium Carbonate Supply-Demand Pattern: Industry Chain Shifts Under Policy Dividends and Resource Constraints
When we shifted our perspective away from price fluctuations, we found that the lithium carbonate market in Q1 2026 was undergoing deeper structural changes. These changes were reflected not only in price changes, but also in policy-driven dynamics on the demand side, geopolitical constraints on the supply side, and the quiet transformation of lithium carbonate's role within the entire new energy industry chain.

[SMM Analysis] Lithium Carbonate Q1 "N-Shaped" Oscillation: Tight Balance Pattern Amid Tug-of-War Between Upstream and Downstream
In Q1 2026, China's lithium carbonate market entered a phase of fluctuating at highs, building on the strong rally at the 2025 year-end. Prices exhibited a typical "N-shaped" wide-ranging trajectory: a significant rise in January, a slight pullback in February, and another sharp rise in March. Behind this trajectory was a concentrated manifestation of the ongoing tug-of-war between upstream spot order holders holding back from selling and downstream buyers restocking on dips.

First Batch of Lithium Chemical Products Delivered from Huayou's Zimbabwe Base
On April 25, 2026 local time, the Zimbabwe lithium sulfate project successfully held the shipment ceremony for its first batch of products, marking the full transition of Huayou's lithium sulfate project in Zimbabwe from construction and commissioning to stable production. Huayou became the first Chinese enterprise to achieve localized lithium sulfate production in Zimbabwe, marking a milestone achievement in Huayou's ex-China ore mining and metallurgy integration strategy.
