An Egyptian company said on April 14 that the company is planning to spend nearly 2.7 billion US dollars to build an aluminium smelter to meet the local demand and demand from overseas buyers. Mohammed Al-Saadawi, chief executive of the Egyptian Metal Construction Company (Metalco), said the company is in talks with a potential partner for the 600,000 mt/year aluminium smelter project. The Arabic-language daily addusouras quoted him as saying that the company was studying two possible locations for the project, the first in the northern Port Said and the other in the Golden Triangle economic zone on the eastern flank of Egypt's Red Sea.
