According to media reports on Thursday (February 23), the new CEO of Ukraine's national oil and gas company Naftogaz hopes to increase natural gas production in Ukraine in 2023 to meet its own needs and cut gas imports from other countries and regions.
Naftogaz CEO, Oleksiy Chernyshov, said in an interview that the plan calls for Naftogaz to boost gas production by 8 percent in 2023 amid the fuel export ban and that Naftogaz is urging private companies to ramp up their production by 16 percent.
However, Chernyshov's idea does not take into account territorial disputes or the destruction of gas extraction facilities, which may pose risks to his grand plan.
