Copper Concentrate Imports in September Hit a New Monthly High

SHANGHAI, Nov 15 (SMM) - China imported 2.27 million mt of copper ore and concentrate in September 2022, up 7.7% on the year and 0.15% on the month. The combined imports of copper concentrate in January-September totalled 18.895 million mt, up 8.8% year-on-year. The imports of copper ore and concentrate in September hit a new monthly high.

South America: China imported 683,500 mt of copper concentrate from Chile in September, down 14.34% or 114,400 mt from the previous month. In August, shipments of copper concentrate from major ports in Chile stood at 397,200 mt, a decrease of 416,900 mt compared with July. In September, the copper concentrate imported from Peru was 668,100 mt, a month-on-month increase of 35.73% or 175,900 mt. The shipments of copper concentrate from local major ports stood at 656,500 mt in August, down 21,200 mt from July. In addition, China imported 60,700 mt of copper concentrate from Ecuador, a month-on-month increase of 81.15% or 27,200 mt.

Asia: In September, China imported 109,200 mt of copper concentrate from Mongolia, down 3.1% or 3,500 mt from the previous month and imported 74,000 mt from Kazakhstan, down 46.56% or 64,500 mt on the month. The imports from Indonesia stood at 104,000 mt, a month-on-month increase of 44.58% or 32,000 mt. In August, shipments of copper concentrate from major ports in Indonesia amounted to 581,000 mt, a MoM increase of 408,800 mt from July.

Europe: In September, China imported 81,400 mt of copper concentrate from Serbia, up 29.87% or 18,800 mt MoM. The imports from Spain stood at 70,100 mt, up 17.95% or 10,700 mt MoM.
