New Breakthrough in the production process of magnesium Sponge Titanium in Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. 6 multipolar magnesium electrolytic cells are put into full operation

[new breakthrough in magnesium sponge titanium production process in Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd.] as of December 27, 2021, six multi-polar magnesium electrolytic cells in the production process of magnesium electrolysis in Panzhihua Titanium material Co., Ltd. (Panzhihua Titanium Co., Ltd.) of Angang Group have been put into full operation, and the pilot production of magnesium electrolysis capacity expansion has been won in stages. This marks a new breakthrough in the magnesium sponge titanium production process of Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. has become the only sponge titanium production enterprise in the world with pipelined magnesium electrolysis process and multipolar magnesium electrolysis process.

As of December 27, 2021, six multi-polar magnesium electrolytic cells in the production process of magnesium electrolysis of Angang Group Panzhihua Titanium Co., Ltd. (referred to as Panzhihua Titanium Co., Ltd.) have been put into operation, and the trial production of magnesium electrolysis capacity expansion has won in stages. This marks a new breakthrough in the magnesium sponge titanium production process of Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. has become the only sponge titanium production enterprise in the world with pipelined magnesium electrolysis process and multipolar magnesium electrolysis process.

On the basis of the stable operation of the existing assembly line magnesium electrolysis process, Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. carried out the capacity expansion of magnesium electrolysis in December 2020, and introduced the production technology of multi-polar magnesium electrolysis. Compared with the pipelined magnesium electrolysis process, this process has the advantages of low power consumption, high degree of automation, independent production of magnesium in a single cell, efficient circulation of magnesium chloride, low cost, excellent quality, easy control and so on. After the comprehensive production of the project, the magnesium output can not only meet the material balance of the company's sponge titanium refined magnesium consumption and reduce the production cost, but also provide magnesium electrolysis process reference for the construction of the second phase of sponge titanium project in Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. consolidate the competitive advantage of the industry with the lowest manufacturing cost of sponge titanium in Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd.

Since the construction of the magnesium electrolysis capacity expansion transformation project, the titanium material company has paid strict attention to the safety and quality control of the construction process, and made every effort to do a good job in the compilation of post operation rules, technical training of staff and workers, creation of production conditions, and so on. As it is the first time to try the multi-polar magnesium electrolysis process, the relevant management and technical personnel of Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. in the stage of commissioning and production preparation, carry out the optimization and elimination of defects in equipment commissioning, the formulation of trial production plan, and the organization and implementation of production plan of assembly line magnesium electrolytic cell and multi-polar magnesium electrolytic cell at the same time.

Producer inventories stood at 263,000 mt, up 14.1% month-on-month. Sponge titanium production was approximately 24,800 mt, up 10.75% year-on-year, with little change from previous months.
