Under the trend of carbon peak and carbon neutralization, the outbreak of new energy industry is accelerated. According to SNE, total global power battery shipments reached 213 GWH in 2020, an increase of 34 per cent over the same period last year. EVVolumes predicts that the global demand for power batteries is expected to exceed 1000 GWH by 2025, entering the TWh era. At the same time, the industry believes that the future market size of energy storage may exceed that of power batteries, which can be measured by the output value of trillion yuan.

In the face of trillion-level market opportunities, Sinochem International, as a central enterprise giant, is stepping up efforts to seize the new energy industry tuyere. On April 16, the unveiling ceremony of Sinochem New Energy Yangzhou Base and the signing activities of the first batch of strategic partners were held in Yangzhou. It is understood that Sinochem's new energy Yangzhou base covers an area of 1500 mu, and plans to build an annual capacity 20GWh battery project, which will be built in four phases. Capacity construction is expected to be completed in 2025, and strive to build Yangzhou base into the main base of Sinochem's new energy business in eastern China. Among them, the construction of the first phase of the project has started the built-in project, and the equipment installation is expected to be completed by the end of 2021 and mass production in March 2022. After reaching production, German BMW models will be supplied.

Liu Hongsheng said in his speech that the landing of the Yangzhou lithium power new energy project is a solemn commitment of Sinochem International to join the new energy and participate in the great historical process of carbon neutralization. At present, Sinochem New Energy Yangzhou Base has mastered the core technology of the whole industry chain, such as R & D and manufacturing of lithium materials and core components, process research and development, cell, module, PACK manufacturing, etc., product application scenarios cover electric vehicles, household energy storage, industrial energy storage and other fields.

Liu Le said that since 2016, Sinochem International New Energy has continuously carried out industrialization in the areas of battery materials, power cells and energy storage business by virtue of the group's comprehensive advantages in the upper and lower reaches of the industrial chain. In 2019, through the combination of Sinochem International and BMW, the first domestic integrated energy station project for storage and charging of ternary lithium battery was built in Qingdao. Today, the Yangzhou project is the most exciting part of the Sinochem and BMW symphony, an important part of the layout of Sinochem's new energy industry chain, and carries the important mission of advanced battery technology research and development and efficient power battery production.

Liu Yanlong said that as an excellent large state-owned enterprise in China, it is necessary for Sinochem International to enter the new energy industry, and he is full of confidence that Sinochem's new forces will emerge from the cocoon. At the initial stage of construction, Sinochem New Energy has received the full support of many heavyweight suppliers, and its future development is expected. Today's unveiling will open a new chapter of all-round cooperation between Sinochem and BMW and will inject new internal impetus into the quality of Sinochem. In his video speech, a representative of BMW Group said that according to the agreement, BMW Group has fully opened up BMW i3 battery-related product development technology to Sinochem. In the first step of the cooperation, BMW plans to use the battery module produced by the Yangzhou plant in the BMW i3 model in 2022, and the two teams will also develop different variants of the battery to provide to third-party customers. In the second step of the cooperation, we look forward to bringing more demand for BMW products to the Yangzhou plant in 2023-2025.

At the signing ceremony of the first batch of strategic partners, Sinochem International signed cooperation agreements with Zhejiang Hezhong New Energy vehicle Co., Ltd., Sichuan Kaimai New Energy Co., Ltd., Wuxi pilot Intelligent equipment Co., Ltd., Onghua (Shanghai) Automation Engineering Co., Ltd., and Information Industry Electronics 11th Design and Research Institute Science and Technology Engineering Co., Ltd.

Those who are good at playing the game plan the situation, and those who are good at it go far away. In recent years, Sinochem International has actively accelerated the strategic transformation and regarded the new energy business as one of its three major strategic directions, and lithium battery is one of the important projects. According to the strategic plan, Sinochem International will build a new energy ecosystem around the business of positive and negative materials, lithium batteries and battery recycling, and build a "supplier of energy management solutions for new energy vehicles".

As early as four years ago, Sinochem International began to lay out upstream materials. In July 2017, Sinochem International's annual production capacity of 10,000 tons of NCM cathode materials project was established in Zhongwei, Ningxia. At present, it has supplied domestic mainstream power, small power and 3C digital customers in bulk. With the rapid growth of downstream customer demand, the company is actively studying capacity improvement plans.

At present, Sinochem International's power battery phase I project in Huaian has entered the trial production stage, the production capacity has climbed smoothly, and the key indicators such as material utilization and assembly through rate have reached the mainstream level of the industry. The first self-designed passenger car battery system successfully passed the vehicle measurement, achieving a zero breakthrough in the field of passenger car application.

In terms of battery recycling, Sinochem International established Hebei Sinochem Lithium Power, which focuses on the efficient recycling of waste lithium-ion power batteries in 2019. At present, the project is in the pilot stage of research and development, with an annual production capacity of 3000 tons. In February last year, Sinochem International announced further cooperation with Germany's BMW, including the manufacture of power batteries, research and development of energy storage systems and echelon utilization of decommissioned batteries.

At present, the power battery market is competing, and the industry concentration is increasing day by day. Data show that in 2020, the domestic power battery installed TOP5 market accounted for 80% of the market share of nearly 90% of the top 10 market, the Matthew effect is becoming more and more prominent. Even so, Sinochem International has unusual and unique advantages as a "national team".

As Liu Yanlong said in his speech, Sinochem, as a central enterprise with a brilliant history, has decades of entrepreneurial and struggling experience, and has strong capital and resources. Sinochem has been using new energy for less than two years, and has set up a technology research and development institute and a manufacturing and marketing team. As a rookie in the industry, Sinochem New Energy's product quality and marketing services have been initially approved by the majority of customers.

In fact, Sinochem International has been ploughing the fine chemical industry for decades and has a deep understanding of related materials, which is conducive to the faster and better establishment of an electrochemical material system platform with Sinochem characteristics. It is conducive to a deeper and more efficient understanding of customer requirements for product chemical properties. It is reported that at present, Sinochem International's ternary soft bag cell energy density can reach 275Whhand kg, which is in the leading position in the industry.

As the head of the Chemical Division of Sinochem, Liu Hongsheng once said: "New energy is a trillion-class market, the industry is just in the climbing stage, is far from mature."
