SMM News: the tide of electrification is accelerating in the field of ships. Electric ship has the advantages of green environmental protection, zero pollution, safety and low cost. With the increasingly stringent environmental protection policy and the continuous improvement of lithium battery technology, it is expected that ship electrification will enter a period of rapid development in the next few years, and pure electric ship will become the mainstream direction of development.

Recently, the first lithium battery-powered cruise ship in Jiaxing South Lake Scenic spot officially started construction in Jiaxing Weijia Shipping Co., Ltd. The cruise ship uses a relatively safe lithium iron phosphate battery, and because the battery itself has no vibration source, the ship basically has no noise during navigation, only the sound of propellers flapping water.

After the cruise ship uses lithium battery, the endurance of the cruise ship is increased by more than 100% compared with the existing traditional lead-acid battery; the positive and negative electrodes of traditional lead-acid battery are composed of lead and its oxides, and the electrolyte is sulfuric acid. In the process of production, use and recycling, improper operation will cause damage to the water body and soil ecology, and lithium iron phosphate batteries will not cause obvious damage to the human body and the environment in the product life cycle.

It is understood that the average lithium battery capacity of a new energy vehicle is 40-50 degrees, while that of a luxury electric cruise ship is about 3000 degrees. It is very important for battery enterprises to expand the application field of lithium battery. Research and Markets, a research company, predicts that the global electric ship market will reach more than 45 billion yuan in 2024, and the market prospect is very broad.

Yiwei / Ningde / Guoxuan stepped up the layout

In fact, many battery companies have accelerated the layout of lithium-ion ships since the beginning of this year. Just last month, the construction of China's first pure electric port tugboat was officially started in Lianyungang, which uses a lithium iron phosphate power battery pack with 100 million lithium energy. The ship can be filled in two modes: fast charge and slow charge, fast charge for 2 hours and slow charge for 6-8 hours. In addition, Fujian Province's first electric high-end inland river cruise ship "Minjiang Star" also successfully made its maiden voyage. The ship's power battery system adopts Ningde era large-capacity and high-safety lithium iron phosphate cell, equipped with 936kWh power, and can run continuously for 8 hours.

Earlier, in June this year, Yiwei LiNeng signed an agreement with Shanghai Hanshun Shipping Co., Ltd. The project set three world records for the world's largest batch of new energy bulk carriers (18), the world's largest single ship new energy bulk carriers (5400 tons), and the world's largest river-sea new energy bulk carrier fleet. Compared with ordinary merchant ships of the same type, the operating cost can be saved by about 30%.

In May this year, Shenhai 01, the first maritime dangerous goods emergency command ship designed and built by China, was successfully launched in Guangzhou. The ship is equipped with Ningde-era lithium-ion power battery system, each set of lithium iron phosphate battery capacity of 750kWhh, a total of 1.5MWh lithium iron phosphate battery. Ningde Times said that the launch of "Deep Sea 01" also marks the successful offline of the first marine ship power battery system in the Ningde era.

In April this year, the pure electric cruise ship Kuozhen Princess, which is powered by Yiwei lithium, began construction in Guangzhou. It is reported that the ship will use lithium iron phosphate batteries with a capacity of 1.5MWh. Prior to this, Yiwei LiNeng also signed a 280-seat "Blue Dolphin Electric Cruise" project, the battery is lithium iron phosphate and the battery capacity is 2.5MWh.

As of October this year, the total installed capacity of Yiwei lithium energy marine batteries has exceeded 50 MWH, providing power battery systems for more than 200 new energy ships. "the distance between the port and the city is getting closer and closer. in order to reduce the impact of pollution on inshore waters and residents, Yiwei Lithium can actively promote technological innovation in marine power lithium batteries and power supply systems, and promote the conversion of oil to electricity and lead-acid batteries to lithium batteries for ships in many places across the country." Liu Jincheng, chairman and president of Yiwei Lithium Energy, said.

It is not difficult to see that Yiwei LiNeng and Ningde era are very active in the field of electric ships. in addition, Guoxuan Hi-Tech is also actively involved in electric ships. In March this year, Shanghai Guoxuan Wuyang Shipbuilding Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Guoxuan Hi-Tech, won the first order for three sets of ship power lithium battery systems, which is also the first batch of system orders since Guoxuan Hi-Tech entered the ship power lithium battery market.

Lithium iron phosphate "like a fish in water"

The application fields of electric ships and electric vehicles are very different, and the performance requirements of lithium batteries are also different. At present, whether it is the first lithium battery-powered cruise ship in the South Lake Scenic spot of Jiaxing, or the electric ships arranged by Yiwei Lithium Energy, Ningde era and Guoxuan High-tech Institute, lithium iron phosphate batteries are used without exception. This is obviously not a coincidence.

Lithium iron phosphate battery is the best choice for marine power battery at present because of its good safety, long cycle performance, good high temperature stability and low cost. At present, the price of lithium iron phosphate battery has dropped to 0.6 yuan / Wh, which is economical in the field of ship application. In terms of safety, lithium iron phosphate power battery and BMS battery management system have developed rapidly in recent years. The improvement of charge and discharge rate makes the ship start-up acceleration and power handling better, which already has the technical conditions for popularization and application in ships.

Lithium iron phosphate battery has become the best choice for marine power battery at present because of its high safety, long life, low cost and balanced performance. Ningde era has overcome technical problems such as safety, long service life, high power and long life. The battery pack system is designed with a battery pack that meets the protection grade of IP67 or above, which can effectively avoid the safety risks caused by water vapor, salt fog and dust and meet the IP level requirements in the whole life cycle. " Wu Kai, vice president of Ningde Times, said.

In fact, the advantages of lithium iron phosphate are gradually emerging not only in electric ships, but also in other areas. Cost and safety will continue to be the first considerations for battery suppliers in a variety of battery application scenarios. It can be predicted that the sphere of influence of lithium iron phosphate will expand rapidly in the future.

According to the analysis of Wood Mackenzie, an international research institute, lithium iron phosphate batteries accounted for 10% of the electrochemical storage market in 2015. Since then, their market share has increased rapidly and is expected to exceed 30% by 2030.
