SMM, Sept. 17 / PRNewswire-Asianet / -: Newmont Goldcorp said recently that it had suspended the operation of the Penasquito gold mine in Mexico, mainly because of the renewed blockade by freight contractors and members of the Cedros community.

The gold mine produced 272000 ounces of gold in 2018.

The blockade had been lifted at one point in June, when transport of the Penasquito gold mine had returned to normal.

To ensure the safety of local residents and property, as well as the long-term operation of the Penasquito gold mine, the company said it would suspend business on the project if the illegal blockade continued.
