TAIPEI (Scrap Register): Prices for Taiwanese containerized HMS # 1&2 80:20 imports down to $213 a ton during the week ended September 02, as per the latest figures from The Steel Index.
Taiwanese scrap prices dropped by $7 a ton during the week to $213 a ton. Mills kept firm on their bidding prices for imported ISRI grade scrap this week, whereas suppliers lowered their offer prices.
Mills also believe that containerized scrap prices have risen too fast when compared to bulk scrap, especially considering that there is little change in real demand.
Hence they have decided to stand firm on their bids. The demand domestically in Taiwan also remains sluggish, resulting in mills continuing to slash production.
