AT&T store recycling old cell phones for soldiers

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  From now through Memorial Day (May 30), the public is encouraged to recycle old cell phones at AT&T’s corporate owned store in Grand Rapids, located at 1920 S. Pokegama Avenue, to benefit Cell Phones For Soldiers. The charity uses recycling proceeds to send free phone cards to military members serving overseas.

All recycled cell phones collected at AT&T stores will be donated to Cell Phones For Soldiers. For every donated phone, the charity is able to provide 30 minutes of free talk time to deployed troops.

“Every year, we are humbled by the number of people and organizations like AT&T that take the initiative to support our troops and veterans,” said Robbie Bergquist, co-founder of Cell Phones For Soldiers. “We would be honored to have Grand Rapids residents donate used cell phones to help us in our mission to connect military members with their loved ones.”

“Service members often reflect after deployment that being connected to friends and family means so much to our military members, especially as they serve long deployments away from home,” said Col. Kevin Olson. “Cell Phones For Soldiers is a simple and easy way the public can help support those men and women in uniform who are serving our country.”

AT&T’s other 27 corporate owned stores throughout Minnesota will also be collecting phones for Cell Phones For Soldiers as part of the drive.

AT&T has a long-standing mission of supporting military troops and veterans. Since 2007, AT&T, the AT&T Foundation and AT&T’s customers have donated more than $4.6 million to support Cell Phones For Soldiers.
