As of May 26, the operating rate of 50 major construction steel EAF steel mills nationwide was 39.9%, down 0.26% WoW; the capacity utilization rate was 41.97%, down 0.36% WoW; daily average production of construction steel was 93,500 mt, down 800 mt WoW.

【SMM Steel】Hoa Phat now generates ~90% of its production electricity internally, keeping grid reliance at 10% for backup. Deputy Director Nguyen Do Dung said using waste heat and gases for power cuts costs by trillions of Vietnamese dong annually without consuming fossil fuels. The group also integrates energy-efficient equipment and recycles saturated heat across its major steel complexes. Hoa Phat plans to install 100 MWp of rooftop solar systems by year-end, including a 79.2 MWp project at Dung Quat.

【SMM Steel】Kazakhstan-based steelmaker Qarmet has started active construction of its new long-product rolling mill at the Temirtau site. The facility will have annual capacity exceeding 540,000 tonnes, producing A600 and A1000 high-strength rebar, angle steel, and channel steel. Qarmet said the investment will support technology upgrades, improve efficiency, and expand its portfolio of high-value steel products.
