In 2026, magnesium alloy market demand entered a rapid growth cycle. Applications in NEV lightweighting, high-end equipment, and high performance transportation equipment continued to expand. The industry ushered in a golden window of supply-demand structure improvement and accelerated technology commercialization, with upstream and downstream industry chain players speeding up coordinated deployment.

On April 2, Bojun Technology and LK Group held a strategic cooperation signing ceremony in Kunshan, Jiangsu, launching in-depth collaboration in magnesium alloy forming. As a core supporting enterprise for NEVs, Bojun Technology had previously introduced LK's large die-casting units, achieving mass production of multiple integrated die-casting products. This cooperation further expanded investment in 10kt-class and large-tonnage intelligent die-casting units equipped with high-precision machining equipment, and implemented TPI magnesium alloy semi-solid thixoforming technology, focusing on overcoming forming challenges for complex thick-walled components such as NEV auto body structural parts, electric drive assemblies, and robot structural parts, filling the gap in high-end magnesium alloy manufacturing capacity, and further strengthening core competitiveness in lightweighting.

Zhangxue Motorcycles extensively applied magnesium alloy materials in international racing events, leveraging lightweighting advantages to break the long-standing monopoly of international brands. With a density of only 2/3 that of aluminum and 1/4 that of steel, magnesium alloy achieved approximately 30% weight reduction in components, helping race motorcycles significantly reduce curb weight and improve handling and cornering performance. Meanwhile, the excellent vibration damping and heat dissipation properties of magnesium alloy, combined with anti-creep formulation and forging process improvements, effectively addressed traditional application pain points, achieving large-scale application in the high performance motorcycle sector and providing a strong demonstration for magnesium alloy's expansion into the high-end transportation equipment market. Zhangxue Motorcycles won the championship at the WSBK Portugal round, with the key being the large-scale application of magnesium alloy hard components, validating the material's value in racing. Its 820RR-RS race motorcycle, powered by an 819cc triple-cylinder engine, featured magnesium alloy pistons (with DLC coating and oil cooling optimization to address heat and corrosion resistance), magnesium alloy cylinder head covers, oil pans, and engine side covers, bringing the engine dry weight to only 52 kg, approximately 17 kg lighter than comparable models. Combined with titanium alloy connecting rods, it achieved high-rev response at 15,250 rpm. The chassis and running gear were equipped with a forged magnesium alloy rear swingarm (exclusive to the RS track version, with equivalent rigidity and 30% weight reduction), a magnesium alloy subframe (beneath the seat, weighing 2.5 kg), and magnesium alloy wheel hubs (40% lighter than aluminum alloy), significantly reducing unsprung mass and rotational inertia. Auto body accessories used magnesium alloy headlight/turn signal brackets and instrument brackets, with cumulative weight reduction from small components being significant. These hard components addressed high-temperature creep and corrosion pain points, supporting the ultimate lightweighting and handling of the entire vehicle, and driving accelerated penetration of magnesium alloy in the high-end transportation equipment sector.

Leveraging China's abundant magnesium resource reserves and mature industry support, combined with sustained volume growth in new energy and emerging equipment demand, magnesium alloy application scenarios continued to broaden. Strong alliances among enterprises drove technology and capacity upgrades, and the industry was entering a new phase of large-scale commercialization and high-quality development, with the value of lightweighting as a core material continuing to gain prominence.

[SMM Analysis] Low Steel Mill Allocations Drive Steady Decline in Stainless Steel Inventory
[SMM Analysis: Low Steel Mill Allocations Drive Steady Decline in Stainless Steel Inventory] On April 23, SMM reported that stainless steel social inventory continued destocking this week. Total inventory across the two core markets of Wuxi and Foshan edged down from 949,400 mt on April 16, 2026 to 949,400 mt on April 23, down 1.22% WoW, maintaining a steady destocking pace. This week, SS futures broke above highs not seen since 2023, boosting market sentiment. Futures-spot arbitrage purchases were relatively active, and stainless steel spot prices rose in tandem. Meanwhile, traders leveraged previously acquired low-cost inventories, enhancing their ability to offer discounts, and continued to move less popular specifications at low prices. Combined with a small amount of pre-Labour Day holiday stockpiling demand, multiple factors jointly drove further declines in stainless steel social inventory this week. Additionally, steel mill allocation volumes remained at relatively low levels recently, further easing inventory accumulation pressure. As social inventory continued to pull back, traders reported that some specifications had become tight. With SS futures fluctuating at highs, overall market confidence was strong. Overall, this week's further destocking was primarily driven by active futures-spot arbitrage spurred by stronger SS futures, trader discount-driven shipments, limited pre-holiday stockpiling support, and low steel mill allocation volumes. Current market sentiment was positive, with tightness in some specifications supporting continued destocking. However, it should be noted that pre-holiday stockpiling demand was limited in scale, and subsequent steel mill production schedule pace will continue to influence inventory trends. Near-term inventory is expected to continue modest...

Magnesium Ingot Prices Continued to Weaken This Week, Market Pattern of Strong Supply and Weak Demand Persisted [SMM Magnesium Weekly Review]
[SMM Magnesium Weekly Review: Magnesium Ingot Prices Continued to Weaken This Week, Market Pattern of Strong Supply and Weak Demand Persisted] China's dolomite market operated steadily this week, with supply basically stable. Demand was supported by rigid restocking needs from primary magnesium enterprises, and combined with elevated transportation costs, prices are expected to remain stable in the short term. The magnesium ingot market was overall in the doldrums, as producers in major producing regions shipped at low prices under the influence of capital constraints and bearish expectations, with strong supply and weak demand driving continued price reductions. The export market was sluggish, as ex-China buyers took a wait-and-see approach and pushed for lower prices, with FOB prices weakening in tandem, and downward pressure persisting in the short term. Magnesium powder prices pulled back following magnesium ingots, with enterprises producing based on demand. Raw material inventory was sufficient and procurement enthusiasm was low, leaving room for further price reductions in the short term. Magnesium alloy prices moved in sync with magnesium ingots, with processing fees remaining relatively stable. Producers maintained stable supply, and downstream restocking on an as-needed basis drove a slight recovery in transactions, but the overall pattern of strong supply and weak demand persisted.

Deep-Sea Pressure Affects Titanium Film: Initial Growth and Long-Term Weakening Revealed
[SMM Titanium Express] Ningbo Institute of Materials research reveals dual effect of deep-sea hydrostatic pressure on titanium passive film: initial high pressure accelerates film growth for better protection, but long-term pressure induces local crystallization of amorphous film into metastable TiO phase, with grain boundaries becoming ion channels that weaken self-healing ability. This provides theoretical support for composition optimization and surface protection design of deep-sea titanium alloys
