[SMM PV News] Waaree Solar Americas Invests $30M in United Solar for Traceable Polysilicon

Published: Mar 11, 2026 16:56
Waaree Solar Americas has signed a $30 million agreement to purchase roughly 5.37 million Series B preferred shares in United Solar Holdings. The investment secures a long-term supply of 'fully traceable' polysilicon for Waaree's expanding US and global solar manufacturing operations. United Solar recently commenced production at its 100,000 metric ton plant in Oman's Sohar Freezone, a facility capable of supporting about 40 GW of annual module production. Backed by over $900 million in recent international debt funding, the Oman facility highlights the industry's growing focus on transparent upstream supply chains.

[SMM PV News] California Court Upholds NEM 3.0
The California 1st District Court of Appeal has affirmed the CPUC's Net Billing Tariff (NEM 3.0), rejecting a lawsuit from environmental and solar advocates. The ruling upholds the 2022 decision that slashed rooftop solar export credits by up to 80% to address the 'cost shift' between solar and non-solar ratepayers. Despite industry data showing a 60% to 80% drop in sales and the loss of over 17,000 jobs since NEM 3.0 took effect, the court concluded that the CPUC met statutory requirements for 'sustainable growth'. This decision effectively ends the standalone solar business model in California, making battery storage integration essential for homeowners to achieve a viable return on investment.

[SMM PV News] Netherlands Generates 132 TWh in 2025
The Netherlands generated 132 billion kWh of electricity in 2025, a 10% year-on-year increase, with renewables accounting for 49% of the total mix. Solar output surged 17%, driven by a sunny season and a 4% growth in installed capacity, which includes around 550 MW of small-scale PV added in the first half of the year. Conversely, fossil fuels supplied 48% of the total, as natural gas and coal generation rose by 11% and 25%, respectively. Bolstered by strong domestic production, the country's electricity exports jumped 25% to 30 billion kWh, heavily supplying neighboring Germany and Belgium amid regional generation shortfalls.
