Shanghai (Gasgoo)- ZF Transmission (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. announced in early July the successful rollout of its first reducer product designed specifically for the new energy vehicle (NEV) market.

The component will be delivered to a leading domestic automaker, marking a significant breakthrough in ZF's localized electrification efforts and deepening the company's footprint in China's NEV powertrain sector.

Founded in 2004, ZF Transmission (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. is a joint venture between ZF (China) Investment Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Automotive Transmission Co., Ltd. The company has long specialized in the production, assembly, testing, and sales of automatic transmissions and related components for passenger vehicles, including the 5HP19FL automatic transmission and the classic 8HP 8-speed automatic transmission.

The launch of this new reducer marks a strategic extension of the company's business into the NEV segment. According to Timo Maisel, Senior Vice President of Electrified Powertrain Technology Division, Asia Pacific, the project stands as a model of autonomous project execution by the regional team—from customer acquisition and project initiation to product rollout—showcasing the Asia Pacific team's strengths in localized R&D, project management, procurement, and manufacturing. He emphasized that this milestone underscores the region's technical capabilities in core NEV components and its agility in responding to market demands with high operational efficiency.

The reducer integrates ZF's global electric drive technologies with local manufacturing expertise. It features high efficiency, low noise, and a compact design, meeting the stringent technical requirements of China's mainstream NEV platforms.

With the first unit now delivered, ZF Transmission (Shanghai) plans to accelerate mass production and scale up delivery capacity. The product is scheduled to debut on a mid-size SUV in the second half of 2025.

ZF stated that it will continue leveraging its global technology network alongside its localized partnership ecosystem to enhance innovation and service capabilities in China, further supporting the country's ongoing transition toward vehicle electrification.
