A Samancor assumiu a responsabilidade pela investigação, limpeza e reabilitação, com o CEO Desmond McManus confirmando que a empresa está reparando a infraestrutura elétrica danificada e as estradas de acesso, e que nomeará um profissional independente para avaliar a instalação. O Departamento de Água e Saneamento enviou equipes para realizar amostragens de qualidade da água e avaliações de risco ambiental, enquanto Mahlobo afirmou que uma inspeção aérea indicou que o derramamento foi contido, embora o impacto exato nas águas subterrâneas da instalação ainda esteja em análise.
