Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On April 17, GAC AION, a new energy vehicle maker under GAC Group, announced a nationwide price reduction of 10,000 yuan across its entire AION S MAX lineup, bringing the starting price down to 139,900 yuan. The official poster also indicates that GAC AION is now offering a zero down payment option across its full range of models.

The AION S MAX officially hit the market on October 26, 2023 as a compact sedan. It comes with five trim levels, with prices ranging from 149,900 yuan to 202,900 yuan.

As a variant of the AION S, the AION S MAX shares a striking resemblance to the former in exterior design, but it has been extended in length and wheelbase, enhancing interior space.

In terms of power, the new car is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor paired with a ternary lithium battery pack, achieving a maximum range of 610 km under the CLTC conditions.

It's noteworthy that this isn't the first price reduction for the AION S MAX this year. On March 5, GAC AION reduced the price of the AION S MAX Xinghan edition by 23,000 yuan, to 179,900 yuan. At that time, buyers also received a free charging pile valued at 4,999 yuan and a 6,000-yuan subsidy on purchases.

In fact, it's not just the AION S MAX alone. GAC AION has announced price cuts on several models since the beginning of this year to stay competitive amid the price cut spree rolled out by many other automakers.

For instance, on March 3, the AION Y Plus 310 Xingyao edition went on sale at 99,800 yuan. This model, serving as the entry-level option in its lineup, further lowered the starting price from the previous 119,800 yuan. It is equipped with a 100kw electric motor and a 37.9kwh battery, providing a CLTC-rated range of 310km.

On the evening of March 7, GAC AION officially announced a maximum price reduction of 23,000 yuan across all trims of the AION V Plus. Specifically, the AION V Plus 80 MAX's price has been reduced to 209,900 yuan, while the AION V Plus 80 and 70's Technology edition both come with a complimentary RPA (Remote Park Assist) system worth 12,400 yuan.

[Automotive: Toyota Decides To Halt Development Of Certain Models]
Toyota Motor Corporation has decided to halt the development of its next-generation battery electric vehicles, specifically targeting a sedan model for its luxury brand Lexus that was originally planned to commence production in mid-2027. This vehicle, featuring fast-charging capabilities and longer cruising range, was showcased at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023. Initially planned for market launch in 2026, its production start was later postponed to 2027. Over the past year, Toyota's global electric vehicle sales exceeded 190,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 42.4%. However, the decision by the Trump administration in the US to eliminate tax incentives for electric vehicle purchases has created adverse market conditions.
