Operating Rate of Lithium Battery Copper Foil Expected to Increase in April

[SMM Research] It is expected that the operating rate of lithium battery copper foil in April will be 59.41%, an increase of 4.31 percentage points compared to the previous month, and a decrease of 6.76 percentage points year-on-year. The downstream battery and terminal markets continue to recover, leading to further increase in demand for negative electrodes. The operating rate of the lithium battery copper foil industry is on the rise, but the growth rate is slowing down. In March, copper prices surged to a high level, and as the copper foil industry mostly settles based on the average price of M-1 month copper, with many copper foil manufacturers not hedging effectively or not hedging at all, raw material losses have appeared. In response, the industry has jointly proposed an increase in processing fees. However, with current overcapacity in the industry, low-price market competition persists, and the process of increasing processing fees is not smooth. In the short term, the game between supply and demand intensifies, with some copper foil companies indicating they will still alleviate financial pressure by controlling operating rates.
