Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Audi in China concluded the year of 2023 with a robust sales performance in China, with a total delivery of more than 729,042 vehicles (including the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong), marking a year-on-year increase of 13.5%, according to a post on Audi China's WeChat account.

Notably, the Audi A6L and Audi Q5L set new annual sales records. Out of the total vehicles delivered in the world's largest auto market, 664,607 units were locally produced in 2023, indicating an 11.2% year-on-year growth. This highlights Audi's commitment to deepening localization strategies and unwavering dedication to the Chinese market.

Dr. Jürgen Unser, President of Audi China, expressed satisfaction with the strong market performance, stating, "In 2023, Audi in China demonstrated robust market performance, with customer deliveries witnessing significant growth. This reaffirms the success of our 'In China, For China' strategy. Collaborating seamlessly with joint ventures, dealerships, suppliers, and the Audi team, we have laid a solid foundation for ambitious development in 2024."

Driven by the accelerating electrification trend, Audi's all-electric e-tron series achieved steady growth in deliveries in China, reaching 31,025 units last year. The Audi Q4 e-tron and the Audi Q5 e-tron emerged as key models propelling the sales surge.

Looking ahead, Audi plans to deepen its localization strategy in China, focusing on high-end products, a sophisticated ecosystem, and premium customer experiences. In terms of product development, Audi FAW New Energy Vehicle Co., Ltd. will commence trial production of the PPE platform-based models in early 2024, with the Audi Q6L e-tron officially entering production by the year-end.

In line with the strategic memorandum signed in July 2023, Audi and partner SAIC Motor aim to expand local product offerings rapidly. As the initial step in this plan, Audi will enter previously uncovered sub-markets in China by introducing new electric vehicle models.

Audi is dedicated to crafting a seamlessly connected high-end ecosystem for Chinese customers. The Audi charging station network significantly expanded in 2023, covering over 30 cities in China, with a deployment of 600 super-fast-charging piles by the end of the year.

Toyota Motor Corporation has decided to halt the development of its next-generation battery electric vehicles, specifically targeting a sedan model for its luxury brand Lexus that was originally planned to commence production in mid-2027. This vehicle, featuring fast-charging capabilities and longer cruising range, was showcased at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023. Initially planned for market launch in 2026, its production start was later postponed to 2027. Over the past year, Toyota's global electric vehicle sales exceeded 190,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 42.4%. However, the decision by the Trump administration in the US to eliminate tax incentives for electric vehicle purchases has created adverse market conditions.
