According to foreign news on August 8, the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines announced on Tuesday that Peru's copper production in June this year increased by 21.8% compared with the same period last year to 241,801 tons.
Boosted in part by an increase in output in June, the output rose 17.6% in the first six months of the year.
Production of zinc, lead and iron also rose in Peru in June, the Energy and Mines Ministry added.
Copper production took a hit earlier this year due to nationwide protests, but mining group Grupo Mexico has been optimistic about its output outlook, saying on an earnings call last month that it expects the tensions will ease.
The government previously said in April that it expected total copper production to reach 2.8 million tonnes in 2023.
Peru stepped up efforts to boost production after reports in May said the Democratic Republic of Congo could overtake Peru as the world's second-largest copper producer within the next few years.
