Copper inventories in the domestic bonded zone increased 1,600 mt from July 17 to 60,900 mt as of Friday July 21, according to the latest SMM survey. Copper inventories in the Shanghai bonded zone added 700 mt to 51,000 mt, and inventories in the Guangdong bonded zone advanced 900 mt to 9,900 mt. Imports remained in losses.
Demand for cargoes under warrants was poor during the off-season, slowing down shipments from bonded zones. Arriving shipments increased noticeably but most of the cargoes have been purchased by buyers. Next week, some of the cargoes will go to the bonded warehouses. Shipments from bonded zones will grow slightly from this week due to month-end deliveries under long-term contracts.
Arriving shipments will exceed shipments from bonded zone inventories, and bonded zone inventories are expected to accumulate slightly next week.
