On the afternoon of December 28, 2021, the launching ceremony of the national magnesium-based energy storage materials innovation consortium and the opening ceremony of the Great Bay area hydrogen Energy Industry and Technology Research Institute was held. The launching ceremony was presided over by Pan Fusheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the National magnesium Alloy Materials Engineering Technology Center.

Pan Fusheng pointed out that magnesium-based hydrogen storage materials are one of the materials with the highest hydrogen storage density among metal solid hydrogen storage materials, and the market prospect is huge. Once the technological breakthrough realizes large-scale application, it will fundamentally change the problems of the traditional energy storage model, such as low efficiency, high cost, poor safety and so on. Magnesium alloy battery is a new generation of battery with great potential, which has the characteristics of rich resources, high safety, low metal cost and low environmental burden, and has begun to attract great attention all over the world. more and more scientists and technicians begin to tackle key technical problems in the aspects of cathode materials, anode materials and electrolytes. In the next step, the national magnesium-based energy storage materials innovation consortium will join the Guangdong National Research and Technology Research Center Co., Ltd. to carry out industrial research and development and promotion of the products in depth and breadth, so as to speed up the entry into China's hydrogen energy and battery application market.

According to Su Jianzhang, chairman of Guangdong Guoyan Science and Technology Research Center Co., Ltd., the scientific research project developed by Guoyan is in line with the grand blueprint of the national carbon peak in 2030 and carbon neutralization in 2060. at present, magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage materials, magnesium batteries, solid-state distributed power sources and solid-state hydrogen storage cars have been developed to solve the problems of difficult hydrogen storage and transportation, expensive lithium batteries, unenvironmental protection and unsafety in China. And successfully declared 14 core patents, its technology has reached the world's advanced level.

It is understood that the national magnesium-based energy storage materials innovation consortium is jointly established by Guangdong National Research Science and Technology Research Center Co., Ltd., Chongqing University, Guangdong Academy of Sciences, Metal Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, magnesium Alloy Branch of the Chinese Society of Materials Research, and other units, industry organizations, and well-known enterprises, led by Academician Pan Fusheng. An advisory committee composed of Academician Gan Yong, Academician Wu Feng, Academician Nie Zuoren, Academician Wei Bingbo, Academician Zhang Union, Academician Guo Zhengxiao and Academician Mao Xinping was established to better implement the proposal of the CPC Central Committee on the formulation of the 14th five-year Plan for National Economic and Social Development and the long-term goal of 2035 to promote the deep integration of industry-university-research and support the industry-led establishment of innovative consortia. The Great Bay area hydrogen Energy Industry Technology Research Institute is jointly initiated by Guangdong National Research Science and Technology Center Co., Ltd., Chongqing University National magnesium Alloy Materials Engineering Technology Research Center, New Materials Research Institute of Guangdong Academy of Sciences, and other units. The aim is to play a major scientific and technological supporting role for the Dawan area in the gathering of hydrogen energy innovation and entrepreneurial talents, demonstration transformation and application, and the cultivation of strategic emerging industries. Strive to become an influential high-end hydrogen energy research and development, conversion, testing and service platform at home and abroad.

At the meeting, Wei Bingbo, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, president of the China Society for Materials Research and former vice president of Northwestern Polytechnic University, Guo Zhengxiao, academician of the European Academy of Sciences, professor of the University of Hong Kong and former vice president of University College London, delivered a speech through the remote network, congratulating the establishment of the consortium and research institute and expressing strong support for the work of the consortium and research institute in the future. We will strive to achieve the grand goal of carbon peak in 2030 and carbon neutralization in 2060.

Next, the national magnesium-based energy storage materials innovation consortium aims to "develop new energy storage industries and promote energy transformation" to carry out subversive and forward-looking technological research on new generation energy storage materials, so as to promote the construction and development of a new generation of energy storage materials industry. to open up a new way for our country to achieve the goal of "double carbon" and alleviate the shortage of strategic resources of lithium batteries. With the goal of "promoting the development of China's new energy materials industry and building an advanced new energy storage industry group in the Dawan area", it is committed to promoting the standardization of the energy storage industry and the construction of laws and regulations, and puts forward constructive suggestions for promoting the development of the hydrogen energy storage industry. provide the basis for the government to formulate relevant industries, plan and apply for national and local government projects, establish joint development funds, and support the common development of consortia and their members. To create a multi-win energy storage brand R & D and industrial platform for Chinese production, learning, research and investment. Under the guidance of the Academician Advisory Group, the Innovation consortium will set up a technical expert committee, set up "Great Bay area hydrogen Energy Industry Technology Research Institute" and "Greater Bay area magnesium Battery Industry Technology Research Institute". And actively participate in and promote the establishment of the "National Technology Innovation Center of Light Metals".

The Dawan area hydrogen Energy Industry Technology Research Institute has established the Dawan area hydrogen Energy demonstration Base of the National magnesium Alloy Materials Engineering and Technology Research Center, with more than 120 sets of experimental and testing equipment, and has built a photovoltaic hydrogen production-magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage-hydrogen power generation demonstration line, and a perfect standardized hydrogen energy testing platform. In the next step, the Institute will give full play to the advantages of talents, disciplines, and technologies in colleges and universities, build an open collaborative innovation platform for "politics, industry, research and application" of hydrogen energy industry technology, and introduce well-known professors, high-level innovative entrepreneurial talents and high-tech enterprises at home and abroad led by a group of academicians. We will promote all parties to jointly carry out applied basic research in the field of hydrogen energy, tackle key technologies, develop major innovative products, and demonstrate the application of scientific and technological achievements, with emphasis on the research, development and transformation of solid magnesium-based hydrogen storage materials. we will comprehensively enhance the level of hydrogen energy technological innovation in the Dawan area and empower the rapid development of the hydrogen energy industry in the Dawan area.
