Copper Inventory in Major Chinese Markets Dipped 14,400 mt on Week

As of Friday October 22, the copper inventory in the mainstream Chinese markets dipped by 14,400 mt from Monday to 94,700 mt. Inventory fell across most regions except for Zhejiang.

SHANGHAI, Oct 22 (SMM) - As of Friday October 22, the copper inventory in the mainstream Chinese markets dipped by 14,400 mt from Monday to 94,700 mt. Inventory fell across most regions except for Zhejiang. The inventory in Zhejiang increased slightly by 500 mt to 500 mt. The inventories in Guangdong decreased by 1,500 mt to 9,900 mt, and inventories in Shanghai decreased by 11,400 mt to 64,600 mt. The inventory in Jiangsu region fell 1,000 mt to 11,500 mt and the inventory in Tianjin dropped 1,000 mt to 3,500 mt.

The sharp drop in the volume of customs clearance for imported copper amid the poor import ratio this week are the main driver for the decrease in inventories in Shanghai and Guangdong. Due to the low local spot premium in Tianjin, smelters in the north shifted to deliver goods to east China, which lowered the inventory in Tianjin.

It is expected that the import volume next week will be slightly more than this week. However, domestic consumption is expected to weaken due to factors such as high premiums and copper prices and the approach of the month-end. As such, domestic inventories may increase slightly next week.

Trading volume reached 21,000 lots, and open interest reached 265,000 lots, an increase of 2,021 lots from the previous trading day, reflecting increased positions by bulls. Last Friday night, the most-traded SHFE copper 2610 contract opened at 109,840 yuan/mt, initially drifted higher to touch a high of 109,950 yuan/mt, then its center gradually moved lower to dip to 109,620 yuan/mt, and finally closed at 109,900 yuan/mt, up 0.34%. Trading volume reached 17,200 lots, and open interest reached 151,100 lots, a decrease of 766 lots from the previous trading day, reflecting reduced positions by bears.

Fabricante taiwanesa de laminados revestidos de cobre (CCL), a Ventec International Group (6672.TW) aprovou em 17 de setembro um orçamento de expansão de NT$ 1,5 bilhão (aproximadamente US$ 47,3 milhões) para arrendar e modernizar uma fábrica ociosa em Kunshan, Jiangsu, implantando duas linhas automatizadas com capacidade mensal de 500.000 chapas de CCL e 2,4 milhões de metros de prepreg. O terreno de 20.000 metros quadrados fica ao lado das operações existentes da empresa e se beneficia das licenças ambientais já existentes, permitindo a produção em massa cerca de um ano antes do que um projeto greenfield. O investimento planejado é de aproximadamente RMB 41,76 milhões para melhorias prediais e RMB 246 milhões para máquinas e equipamentos. O mix de produtos abrange materiais de alta velocidade M6 em fase de aceleração, com os graus M7/M8/M9 em qualificação junto a clientes internacionais de servidores e módulos ópticos. A Ventec registrou receita consolidada recorde em agosto de NT$ 810 milhões, alta de 133,2% em relação ao ano anterior, com os primeiros oito meses em alta de 53,6%. A planta de Kunshan complementará a unidade da empresa na Tailândia e atenderá servidores de IA, switches de alta velocidade, módulos ópticos e eletrônica automotiva, elevando a demanda por folhas de cobre e folhas de cobre eletrolítico a montante.
